Dan Shupe was born in Colorado in the mid 1930s. He grew up in Venice, California, where he started sculpting at a very early age. He took many trips to Mexico and was profoundly influenced by local folk artists. Dan moved to the east coast to study in the mid 50S. He was influenced by Franz Klein and studied with him at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. By the 1960's, Dan began having successful shows in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles. In the last decade, Shupe has evolved as a leading force in the Neo-Expressionist style that is reminiscent of the 1920S and 1930S. His luscious palette is achieved through layer upon layer of pigment, then lacquered and waxed. Pure color in the fauve tradition All vibrant color used sparingly, suggesting passion, humor, freedom from the edge! Dan and his beloved lab Marvin live in his studio in North Hollywood. COLLECTORS: Michelle Pfeiffer, Whoopi Goldberg, Brooke Shields, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ingrid Bergman, Andy Williams, Cher, Paul Wasserman, Chita Rivera, Ali MacGraw. |
